What I loved about Grave of the firefly's was that it was able to spoil its own ending but still leave you hoping that maybe the kids wont die in the end. The movie does a amazing job at making you care about the characters and feel for their plight. You felt sad when the characters lost their home and their mother. But the movie was able to succeed in such sad moments because it evened them out with happy ones. For every misfortune that they encountered the two children had a moment of care free happiness. The children had moments where they were playing, or eating together, or catching firefly's. Because the movie provides us with moments of happiness it makes the sad moments even sadder.
